Due to Canada's immense geography and low population density, domestic shipping has always been expensive. With no economies of scale and rising fuel prices, shipping costs in Canada have been on an upward trajectory, posing significant challenges for businesses and customers alike.

The pandemic accelerated the shift towards e-commerce, leading to a surge in demand for shipping services. While this boom has been beneficial for the online retail sector, it has also strained existing logistics networks, contributing to higher costs.

For small businesses such as ours, rising shipping costs are eroding our already razor-thin profit margins. To absorb these additional expenses, we regularly streamline our order fulfilment processes or keep our overheads low - something we have control over.

So how can we mitigate high domestic shipping costs?

    • Combined shipping - 2 or more kits/decals (3-4 would be optimal).
    • Use of ECT 32 cardboard boxes - lightweight yet durable.
    • Use of recycled padding/cushioning materials.
    • Reducing packaging volume per order.
    • Twice weekly shipping -  Mondays & Thursdays.
    • Expedited Parcel™ - preferential rate for Solutions for Small Business (SMB) - same cost as Regular Parcel™ but quicker and FREE liability coverage up to CAD$100.00.
    • Transparency with customers - we pay at cost what Canada Post charges, no markups.

We also strongly suggest that you refrain from making single item purchase as the shipping costs alone are likely more(if not equal) than the price of the kit itself.

The trend of increasing shipping costs in Canada is likely to continue in the near term. However, by understanding the underlying causes and implementing cost-saving measures, small business owners like us can better navigate this challenging landscape. Customers, too, can make informed choices and adapt to the evolving market conditions.
